Both houses of Congress have already passed health care reform bills that would bring relief to tens of millions of Americans. The electoral upset in Massachusetts cost the Democrats their 60 vote majority in the Senate, which has stalled completion of health care reform. But there is clear path forward for Congress to deliver on the promise of health care reform: Pass and Pledge.

Pass and Pledge to Finish Health Care Reform NOW
Dear Senator Johnson,
I'm counting on you to finish health care reform and deliver a comprehensive bill to President Obama as soon as possible. Despite losing one seat in the Senate, Congress must find a way to complete passage of the reform bills you have already voted for. Please don't let the opportunity for passing real reform slip away.
The most sensible process is called Pass and Pledge and requires members of the House and Senate to work together. A majority of House members must agree to pass the Senate bill that 60 senators voted for on December 24, 2009, and 51 Senators in turn must pledge to House members that they will vote for improvements in that legislation with a separate budget reconciliation bill.
I urge you to support the Pass and Pledge strategy and deliver real health care reform for every American. We can't wait any longer for relief from the crushing cost of health care and the abuses of insurance companies who care only about their bottom line.
This is a critical moment. We have never been this close to health care reform that would extend such sweeping new protections to all and basic benefits to tens of millions of Americans. But the window of opportunity is closing, so now is the time to act!
Opponents of reform may believe they are in the majority because they are louder those of us who believe in health care for all. They are wrong. It's time for you to work together with your colleagues and agree on a process for finishing reform right. I'm counting on you to finish the job.
